Antonio Smith Released by Raiders: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

The Oakland Raiders were 30th in the league in sacks during the 2014 season, but they will try to improve on that disappointing total in 2015 without the services of defensive lineman Antonio Smith.  
The Raiders confirmed on Tuesday that the team released the 33-year-old after only a single season in Oakland. Smith's release saves the Raiders $4 million in cap space, per OverTheCap.com.
Smith played all 16 games for the Raiders last year and finished with three sacks and a forced fumble. He also helped plug the middle against run plays and opened up lanes for his teammates on the outside to pursue the running back.
Smith played with the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans before coming to Oakland and appeared in all 16 games in every single season since 2006 except one, when he played in 15 games in 2013. His durability is impressive, but the Raiders are attempting to get younger, save some money and rebuild after a string of lackluster seasons.
