Brandon Weeden Released by Cowboys: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

Brandon Weeden failed to adequately fill in for Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys' starting quarterback, leading America's Team to release the former first-round draft pick Tuesday.  
David Helman reported the news for the Cowboys' official website. ESPN.com's Adam Caplan added context for the transaction, as Romo is preparing to return from a fractured left clavicle:
Although the numbers don't look too bad (72.4 percent completion rate, 7.5 yards per attempt and a 92.1 passer rating), Weeden lost all three of his starts in relief of Romo, leading Dallas to trade for Matt Cassel during the season. The 32-year-old still struggles to see the entire field and often threw conservative, underneath routes during his time under center in 2015.
Weeden may get another chance elsewhere due to his arm talent and signs of improvement with a more stable organization after an unsuccessful tenure as a starter in Cleveland.
