NFL: New York Jets Suffer Big Blow, Lose Jim Leonhard To Freak Injury Friday

The Jets took a huge blow today at the end of Friday practice, when safety Jim Leonhard got tangled up with back-up receiver Patrick Turner and suffered what is being described by the team as a “severe” injury to his shin and had to be carted off the field.
It’s too early to tell the nature or the severity of the injury, but the Jets starting safety and punt returner will be out for Monday’s game and could possibly miss a lot longer than that if the injury is indeed a break, as some people are speculating. He's likely going to miss the rest of the season, but the Jets may not put him on IR in hopes that he can return for a playoff game.
The bottom line is that the Jets will have to move on and face the New England Patriots on Monday without one of their most important players. Leonhard calls the coverages for the defensive backfield and is like a quarterback for the defense.
