Philadelphia Eagles Benefiting from New Orleans Saints’ Decline

When the team walked off the field following a first-round playoff defeat in January 2014, the Philadelphia Eagles knew they needed to get better. At the time, they likely didn't know that would involve annexing two key pieces from their opponent—one for each side of the ball.
Up against the salary cap, the New Orleans Saints couldn't keep everybody, so running back and secret weapon Darren Sproles became available for trade. And desperate to squeeze one more Super Bowl run out of quarterback Drew Brees, the organization loaded up on stars, allowing a solid veteran like safety Malcolm Jenkins to depart in free agency.
Both players wound up with the Eagles, who have benefited immensely. The Saints, meanwhile, haven't looked the same without either.
