QB Jimmy Clausen and RB Mike Goodson to Start for Struggling Carolina Panthers

November 12, 2010   ·     ·   Jump to comments

Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said Wednesday rookie Jimmy Clausen will get the start at quarterback when the team travels to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers Sunday.

With Matt Moore on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, it was between Clausen and Tony Pike, who posted similar numbers to Clausen in relief of Moore in last Sunday’s 34-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Meanwhile, Mike Goodson will get the start at running back.

DeAngelo Williams is still nursing a sprained foot, Jonathan Stewart suffered a concussion in last Sunday’s game and Tyrell Sutton may not be able to play after injuring his ankle.

Goodson was a fourth-round pick of the Panthers in 2009 out of Texas A&M. At the combine, he ran 4.54 seconds in the 40-yard dash, ranking seventh among all running backs. It will be his first NFL start.

Goodson and the Panthers face the Buccaneers Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT.
