NFL Draft 2011 Results: Thoughts on Philadelphia Eagles Rd 7 Pick Stanley Havili

With their final pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Eagles added to their backfield by taking USC fullback Stanley Havili.

Although he's listed as a fullback, Havili is considered more of a "tweener" fullback/halfback.  He's listed at 6'1" and 225 pounds so he doesn't have the ideal size for a lead blocker.  However, he has enough size and power to be a short yardage runner.

Havili was regarded as the best running fullback of his class.  At USC, he ran the ball 81 times for 509 yards and three touchdowns.  He also caught the ball 116 times for 1,290 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Eagles aren't the type of team who runs out of a power formation very often, so it's not surprising that they took a fullback who isn't the best blocker in the world.
