2011 NFL Draft: Is Alabama’s Marcell Dareus Now the Top Prospect?

Marcell Dareus, take a step forward. 
You may now occupy the pinnacle of the prospect hierarchy for the 2011 NFL Draft.
Whether you're talking about a 4-3 defensive tackle or a 3-4 defensive end, the pro game gets giddy about big, beefy one-gap penetrators who can both wreak in the backfield and hold ground at the point of attack. 
Dareus fits that bill, and after his performance at the NFL Combine, he's now in contention for being the top overall draft pick for April's selection special. In the minds of at least some NFL insiders, he could have now overtaken Nick Fairley and Da'Quan Bowers—fellow challengers to be the first player scooped up this spring—as the No. 1 defensive line prospect.
A franchise quarterback has always been top priority in the draft, but given the questions surrounding this year's crop, the other side of the ball could ultimately provide the first name called by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
