Colorado Corner Jimmy Smith Struggles at Combine
Colorado’s Jimmy Smith once looked like a lock for the first round as the third best defensive back behind LSU’s Patrick Peterson and Nebraska’s Prince Amukamara. But his character concerns followed him to the NFL Combine and were only enflamed.
Already under the spotlight off-the-field issues including a failed drug test in 2007, Smith gave some colorful answers. When asked about comparisons between him and Nnamdi Asomugha, Smith appreciated the compliment—and then stated that he has better ball skills than Asomugha.
It was a brash statement, to say the least. Maybe a statement that shouldn’t have been made when a team is considering your mental state just before landing millions of dollars in your lap. There is a fine line between confidence and hubris.
