Despite being closer to 40 than 30, Anquan Boldin led the San Francisco 49ers in all receiving categories last season. The Detroit Lions rewarded that production Tuesday, giving him a one-year contract.
Adam Schefter of ESPN first reported the news. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirmed the signing and noted the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles were also interested.
Boldin shared his thoughts on Twitter. "First & foremost I want to first thank the 49ers organization and our fans for all of their support over my three seasons in San Francisco."
He added, "The Lions are a great young team that I hope I can help lead back to the playoffs with a goal of a championship for my new fans in Detroit. This coming season, I am excited to announce that I have chosen to play for the Lions and reunite with Coach Caldwell for another run."
Boldin turns 36 in October. He'll join fellow veteran Andre Roberts, who agreed to a one-year deal last month.
