Ben Roethlisberger Not a Pittsburgh Steelers Captain is Not a Big Deal

Hines Ward, Heath Miller, James Farrior, and Keyaron fox, those are your 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers captains. No Jeff Reed, no James Harrison or no Ben Roethlisberger.

Of course this was a huge story, and just another shot at Roethlisberger, who has had the worst year of his life.

Now, many people have said that Ben doesn't deserve to be captain and for the first time I agree with them. Not because Ben isn't a good leader, I'll get to that, but because it would have been even worse press had he been chosen as a captain.

With all the bad-press Ben and this club have been getting for months, naming Roethlisberger captain would have just opened the flood gates even wider. I can see it now: "How can you name that rapist a team captain? You stay classy, Pittsburgh," and so on...

The Big Ben drama was starting to subside a little bit, and this would have picked it up even more. You also can't name a player a player as a captain when ...
