The last two teams to play a real, meaningful football game play the season's first real, meaningful football game tonight. The Denver Broncos host the Carolina Panthers in a Super Bowl 50 rematch, with many of the same principles in place.
Of course some is not all, as the Broncos begin life after Peyton Manning with Trevor Siemian under center. The mismatch at quarterback is startling on paper, as Siemian has as many career snaps (one) as Cam Newton has MVP trophies.
That MVP trophy didn't help Newton and the Panthers much last year in the Super Bowl, thanks to Von Miller, who returns to Denver with a fresh new contract as the highest-paid defensive player in football. Newton gets his No. 1 weapon back in receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who missed all of last season including the Super Bowl with a torn ACL.
