Detroit Lions: DE Kyle Vanden Bosch, CB Alphonso Smith Out on IR

Two key defensive players are now place on IR: Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch with a bulging disk in his neck and CB Alphonso Smith with a shoulder injury. 
The “Bosch” was a cornerstone in our defensive line this year, and it’s going to a rough time shutting down the run on that side of the ball.  Alphonso smith, the lone playmaking CB we have, is out too, making it easier for the opposing quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers to throw at us.
Cliff Avril did pick up the slack against the Chicago Bears whilst Kyle Vanden Bosch was out with an injury, notching three sacks on Jay Cutler.  So maybe all isn’t lost with Kyle out, but nonetheless, it's still a major loss when a defensive leader like him is out.
Either Brandon McDonald or Nathan Vasher will start on his side the rest of the year after Alphonso Smith was injured.  I wouldn’t say we are necessarily screwed, of course, since we don’t really have strong DBs to stop...
