Eric Mangini Fired as 49ers DC: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction

The San Francisco 49ers have fired defensive coordinator Eric Mangini after one season, according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, as new head coach Chip Kelly continues to assemble his staff. 
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com confirmed the news, adding that 49ers linebackers coach Jason Tarver, who was the Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator from 2012-2014, is in "good position" for the job. 
Marvez reported Monday there was a "strong possibility" Mangini would return, but once rumors surfaced that Houston Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel had been offered the job—which he's since turned down—Mangini’s fate seemed sealed. 
In Mangini’s one season as defensive coordinator, the 49ers were fourth-worst in yards allowed (387.4 per game) and 18th in scoring defense (24.2 points). He spent the previous year as tight ends coach under Jim Harbaugh.
