Green Bay Packers Release RB Alex Green

Alex Green is no longer a member of the Green Bay Packers. The running back took to Twitter to thank the fans for their support after being released:
Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin had previously reported that the team had decided to part ways with the 2011 third-round selection:
Green appeared in 16 games over two seasons with the Packers. He rushed for 475 yards and added 131 more as a receiver out of the backfield while serving mostly in a backup role.
Green's lack of explosiveness didn't fit the high-powered Green Bay offense well. He did lead the team in rushing during the preseason, but even so, he averaged just over three yards per carry and didn't do enough to show the team he deserved a spot on the final 53-man roster.
As is often the case, it was a numbers game. The Packers used two draft picks on running backs earlier in the year, selecting Eddie Lacy out of Alabama in the second round and UCLA product Johnathan Franklin in the fourth round....
