Joe Philbin Fired by Dolphins: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

Surviving December collapses defined the Joe Philbin era in Miami. Unfortunately for Philbin, he could not survive an early-season collapse, as the Dolphins fired their head coach Monday after a disappointing 1-3 start. 

Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel was first to report the news of the decision, while Ian Rapoport of NFL Network noted defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle would also be leaving the franchise. 
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross confirmed the decision to part ways with Philbin in a statement, via Alain Poupart of Dolphins.com:
This was a tough decision for me to make knowing how tirelessly Joe worked in his four years here to make this a winning team. He is a man of the highest character and integrity that I developed a close personal relationship with.
