Matt Millen: The Man Without a Plan Destroys 2003 Draft (part 3 of 8)

After a second dismal season with an extremely impatient Matt Millen, Marty Mornhinweg was fired.  Mariucci was the one and only candidate for the Detroit Lions, besides Joe Gibbs who said no.  This indeed made a small controversy with the rooney rule which stated that any NFL team that wants to search for a coach must at least interview a minority coach.  Millen didnt care with his "good ol' boys" mentality.
Mariucci signed a two year $25 million dollar contract.  After spending a somewhat successful 6 year tenure with San Francisco, which saw 60-43 record, Mariucci was fired mainly because of the rift that was created between the 49er’s big wigs and Steve who wanted more say on personal decisions.
