Miami Dolphins Release CB Evan Oglesby; A.J. Edds Not Going On I.R. Yet

The Miami Dolphins released cornerback Evan Oglesby today, freeing up a roster spot for newly-signed inside linebacker Micah Johnson.

Oglesby had been on the Active/Non-Football Illness list since training camp opened last week and had not yet practiced with the team.

A five-year NFL veteran, Oglesby was signed for veteran depth at cornerback last November. He appeared in one game for the Dolphins in 2009 but did not record and statistics.

Oglesby's departure weakens the competition of Jason Allen and rookie fifth-rounder Nolan Carroll for a reserve cornerback spot.

Why Edds isn't on I.R.

Micah Johnson was obviously signed as a replacement for A. J. Edds on the depth chart, as the fourth-round rookie suffered a season-ending torn ACL in last night's practice.

So why was it Oglesby, and not Edds, who was taken off the Dolphins' 80-man roster to make room for Johnson?
