Monday Night Football Preview: San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints began their title defense with a hard-fought win over the Minnesota Vikings in a rematch of last season’s NFC title game. Now, the Saints will try to start 2-0 in consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history when they meet the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park on Monday Night Football.
San Francisco, the pick of NFL oddsmakers to win the NFC West, was stunned with a 31-6 loss to division rival Seattle in Week 1. Those same odds makers don’t expect the 49ers to get things turned around this week, listing them as a 5.5-point underdog with the total set at 44.
The Saints, who led the NFL in scoring and total offense last season, only managed 14 points and 308 yards in their win over Minnesota. However, they did have some missed opportunities that would have put more points on the board. Robert Meachem dropped a pass in the end zone and Garrett Hartley missed two field goals.
