NFL Cuts: Baltimore Ravens Cut Troy Smith

ESPN’s James Walker reports that the Ravens released Troy Smith today.

The Ravens drafted Smith in 2007.  Troy entered the NFL with a lot of promise. The 2006 Heisman Trophy winner led the Buckeyes to the national title game. In his senior season, he won the Walter Camp Award, the Davey O’Brien Award and was named the Associated Press Player of the Year.

His transition to the NFL had a promising start, followed by bad luck. After joining the Ravens, he gained the respect of his teammates and coaches. If it weren’t for an illness, Smith would have started two years.
