Pride and Stubbornness: Chargers Forfeit Lombardi Bid

Chargers GM, A.J Smith is often refered to as stubborn as a mule. He has a no-nonsene approach to running a team that has led to the firing of a 14-2 coach (Marty Shottenheimer), to suspending an All-Pro player (Antonio Gates).
After a (14-2) regular season (team record), and a 3 point loss to the Patriots in the playoffs, Shottenheimer met the fate of having a difference of opinion with smith. Gates also was suspended for two games for a 1 day late contract signing.
The facts that Smith has tried to establish in San Diego are very simple:
1. He is the Man
2. There is NO wiggle room in his negotiations
Wev'e all read countless times about his genius knowlege of the game, his incredible sense of scouting, drafting and recruiting, and often I have agreed.
But heres a little dubious distinction that he might not like:
Being the first man in the history of the NFL to unload (Eight) pro bowlers in less than a year.
