Steve Smith or Lee Evans to the Rams? Why This Would Be a Mistake for St. Louis

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted earlier today that the Rams' No. 1 wide receiver, Mark Clayton, is done for the season after tearing his patella tendon Sunday versus the Lions. Clayton who was acquired in the end of the offseason had grown to be rookie quarterback Sam Bradford's favorite target, catching 23 passes for 306 yards and two TDs.
Since this news has come to the NFL universe, rumors have speculated that the Rams may attempt to trade for either Carolina's Steve Smith or Buffalo's Lee Evans. Both have been speculated over the last few weeks as to be on the trade block.
Both veteran receivers could be brought in to help any team, but the reason the Rams should not bring either in is because I am not sure St. Louis' focus is entirely on winning the NFC West this year...maybe three years from now, winning for three or four years in a row, but not in 2010.
With multiple first-round talents in this year's draft, the Rams should look to the draft to get Bradford's partner...
