The History of the Packers at Mall of America Field

The Green Bay Packers first started playing the Minnesota Vikings at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome (currently Mall of America Field) in 1983. Before then, the Packers and Vikings played at old Metropolitan Stadium starting in 1961.
In 22 games at the old Met, the Packers and Vikings won 11 games apiece. The Packers won most of their games when Vince Lombardi was the head coach while the Vikings won most of their games when Bud Grant was the head coach.
Since the opening of the Metrodome, the series between the two teams has also been very close. The Vikings have won 16 games there while the Packers have won 14.
The darkest period for the Packers playing at that venue was when Mike Holmgren coached the team from 1992-1998. They only won one of the seven games played there while Holmgren was the head coach.
A number of those losses were very painful, as the Packers lost in agonizing fashion late in the games.
