Jim Schwartz, head coach of the Detroit Lions, took to the podium for questions in the NFL Combine Media Room.
Here are some notes:
Biggest different in draft strategy from 2009: Not in Indianapolis trying to find a QB.
Felt the Lions drafted well last year because they had built a consensus between scouts and coaching staff.
This year the goal is to "keep drafting players, regardless of position." "The second you start prioritizing positions, you get away from making good decisions." "Whether you're in the second pick or you trade down, you need to make good decisions."
"(Trading down) and getting more picks isn't useful if you don't use them wisely." "There aren't many players from last year's draft we would trade Louis (Delmas) for...he was a top of the second guy" On importance of safeties vs. cornerbacks: "Depends on the scheme, need a player who is multidimensional." Feels last year's rookies...
