2010 NFL Draft: The Uncertainty of Taylor Mays’ Draft Stock

The 2010 NFL Draft now stands two weeks away. As experts and bloggers continue to update their blogs, there is still uncertainty of draft stocks across the first round.
The one prospect that comes to mind is USC safety Taylor Mays.
As a junior, Mays was a projected top five selection. Mays showed great ball hawking ability, and was known as a hard hitter when he hit the field.
Though, this past season was a rough run for Mays, and has hurt his draft stock as well.
Mays showed his inability as a free safety within pass coverage, struggling against many pass-happy teams.
Even with his hard hitting ability still there, there was to much inconsistency in the passing game.
Next to Jimmy Clausen, this is my biggest question mark.
How did Mays go from a sure top five selection, to a prospect that at this point is a gamble?
What did help Mays in some eyes was his Pro-Day, where he showed off his speed which impressed many scouts.
