Lovie Smith Needs to Keep Jay Cutler On The Field To Win
As we saw in the NFC Championship, the glaring need for the Chicago Bears, just like the season before, is the offensive line.
Jay Cutler was banged up throughout the season suffering a myriad of injuries including a concussion against the New York Giants and a sprained MCL against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship.
With Mike Martz’ all-or-nothing offense, the quarterback is extremely vulnerable to being decimated by blitzers. The quarterback needs an effective, efficient, athletic and intelligent offensive line to protect him as his drops back and back… and back… and back to wait for his receivers to get open.
The first round is littered with offensive lineman and the Bears are forced, more than any other team in the draft, to select one if they want to achieve further success in 2011.
By selecting Derek Sherrod out of Mississippi State, the Bears’ line will be vastly improved in 2011...
