2011 NFL Draft Results See 49ers Pass Up QB Blaine Gabbert for DE/OLB Aldon Smith at No. 7
Coming into the 2011 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers' primary need was at quarterback, but an argument could have also been made that a pass-rushing outside linebacker was their second greatest need.
So the question really becomes, which Missouri player, Aldon Smith or Blaine Gabbert, was the better pick for the 49ers?
It's a question that has draft experts torn.
For one, Gabbert isn't the sure thing that Stanford QB Andrew Luck was labeled to be, but on the other hand, he was deemed as the No. 1 quarterback in this year's draft class by several experts.
As for defensive end/outside linebacker Aldon Smith, he has some growing to do, but so does Gabbert.
So, more specifically, the question should be, who has the most potential?
