2011 NFL Draft: Should The Carolina Panthers Take Cam Newton With No. 1 Pick?

On February 10, former Auburn quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton displayed his abilities for the media during a 45-minute workout session.
While Newton reportedly was spectacular during the session, will this performance earn him the number one overall selection come the 2011 NFL Draft?
The first pick in the draft belongs to the Carolina Panthers—who, following a horrible 2-14 record last season which was marred by inconsistent quarterback play, definitely are in need of a permanent signal-caller.
Here is where Newton comes into the picture.
Following a historic season in which he amassed approximately 2,854 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in addition to another 1,473 yards on the ground and 20 touchdowns, a Heisman Trophy and a BCS National Championship Game victory, it seems obvious that if the Panthers draft Newton all their quarterback problems would be a thing of the past.
