Ben Roethlisberger: You Are Not The Captain Of The Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger will not be an offensive captain for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010. The team voted Hines Ward and Heath Miller as the offensive captains. It’s probably pretty hard to be voted a captain when you aren’t with the team for the first four games because of disciplinary problems.
This should send a message to Roethlisberger. Being the quarterback doesn’t automatically make you the leader of the team. To be a leader you need trust, and Roethlisberger has certainly lost some trust in the Pittsburgh locker room.
The four-game suspension was a message from Roger Goodell. But not being voted a team captain is a message from the team. When the team sends a player a message, that player better be listening.
It’s obvious that the Steelers’ players want a leader that leads by example. It’s obvious that the Steelers’ players disapprove of Ben Roethlisberger’s off-field antics.
