Colt McCoy Signs, Cleveland Browns Training Camp Drama Averted

The Cleveland Browns signed quarterback Colt McCoy on Thursday, diffusing what could've been a very distracting issue during training camp.
While Browns' president Mike Holmgren has gone out of his way to emphasize McCoy was not in the mix to be a starter, the fact that McCoy was a hot topic during the draft elevated his signing to more than a passing interest for fans.
The Browns reportedly signed McCoy for four years for a total of $4.96 million with a signing bonus of $751,000.
With McCoy signed and in camp, the Browns can focus on getting Jake Delhomme ready to start without having to deal with the endless speculation on what McCoy's absence would mean for their plans.
Granted, McCoy's presence will bring its own kind of drama this year, especially if Delhomme falters early, but if McCoy starts one game this year, it means something went horribly wrong.
McCoy may very well be the quarterback of the future, but that future shouldn't be 2010.
