Detroit Lions: “Very” Interested in O.J Atogwe

Most of my readers know that after an article I did yesterday, I have been debating with Lions fans rather vigorously on whether or not Detroit should pursue safety O.J Atogwe if he becomes an unrestricted free agent tomorrow.
While the question of "should they" pursue him is still debatable, I just received news that will likely make a lot of people happy.
I just got off the phone with someone who told me very confidently that Detroit is interested in the star safety, and they will pursue him if he becomes a free agent. When I asked how interested the Lions are I got a one word answer: "very."
I was then told that while they want him, they won't pursue him at the tune of $7-8M a year. But it was also suggested to me that no team other than the Rams, because they would have to pay that if they place the franchise tag on him, will throw that much annual money at him.
