History Not On the Side of New York Jets Getting Back to AFC Title Game

After back-to-back losses in the AFC Championship in games the New York Jets could have won, what does this franchise do as an encore?
For most fans including Head Coach Rex Ryan, the goal of course is to win the Super Bowl.
In theory the objective of every NFL franchise.
With the operative word being theory.
For the hard truth is that with the exception of the Oakland Raiders between 1968 and 1971 and the Raiders again between 1973 & 1976, no other AFC club has been to the championship game three consecutive times.
In both cases, The Raiders lost six times.
In fact between 1967 and 1978, the Oakland Raiders appeared in the AFL/AFC Championship game nine times getting to the Super Bowl twice and finally winning a Lombardi Trophy with a victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
For getting to the AFC Championship game in back-to-back seasons and losing both times is not uncommon in the NFL.
