The Saints have signed 46-year-old veteran kicker John Carney to a one-year deal for the veteran’s minimum.

Carney worked out for the Saints after Garrett Hartley missed a game-winning field goal in the Saints’ 27-24 overtime loss to the Falcons on Sunday. Hartley also missed two field goals in Week 1 against the Vikings and is 4-for-7 on the year.

Despite Carney’s signing, Hartley will remain with the team.

Carney came into the league in 1988 and has kicked 473 career field goals for the Buccaneers, Chargers, Saints, Jaguars, Chiefs, and Giants in his 22-year career.

His career field goal percentage is 82.4, his career long is 54 yards, and he has made 21 career field goals of 50-plus yards in 36 attempts (58.3 percent). Including extra points, Carney has 2,044 career points, good for third all time behind fellow kickers Gary Anderson and Morten Andersen.

The Saints host the 0-3 Panthers Sunday at 12:00PM CDT.
