After sitting out the entire 2015 season due to a suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon reportedly took the first step toward potential reinstatement Wednesday.

Gordon Meets With Goodell Regarding Reinstatement Thursday, July 21 According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gordon met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell regarding reinstatement, which the 25-year-old can apply for Aug. 1. Per Rapoport, however, the meeting doesn't necessarily mean that Gordon will be allowed to return in 2016.
Per ESPN.com's Dan Graziano, it is unlikely that a decision regarding Gordon's status for the 2016 campaign will be reached before the start of the regular season.
It's a "significant" step for Gordon, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "because Goodell wouldn't take the time to meet with Gordon unless the receiver was taking the necessary steps to get back into the NFL."
