‘Let Me Get This Straight’ on Mike Shanahan’s Timetable for Robert Griffin III

You can count on one hand the rookie seasons in NFL history that measured up to that of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. With the 'Skins turning in a 10-win season in 2012 and reaching the playoffs for the first time in this millennium, one would expect the Washington faithful to bring some optimism into 2013.
Not so.
Instead of Redskins fans gearing up for Griffin's sophomore season, they're waiting with bated breath to see if their quarterback recovers from surgery on the ACL and LCL ligaments in his right knee. Those damaged ligaments were an injury that Griffin attempted to play through in the Redskins' playoff game, which they eventually lost to Seattle.
Blame has been passed around for Griffin remaining in action, most of it being heaped upon Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan, who could have pulled his star for another rookie quarterback—Kirk Cousins—who proved to be more than capable in his relief effort against the Baltimore Ravens,...
