Lions CB Darius Slay Says He Can Cover Anybody, Wants to Be Called ‘The Earth’

Third-year Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay had what Detroit Free Press beat writer Dave Birkett described as a "light moment" with former teammate and current NFL Network analyst Nate Burleson after practice Wednesday. The two lined up as if they were competing in one-on-one drills.
Cue the big talk.
"I can cover anybody on this planet," Slay said, via Birkett. "I am The Earth. Call me The Earth."
Already affectionately dubbed "Big Play Slay," the 24-year-old tried out a hybrid of the two names.
"I'm The Earth," Slay said. "But Big Play Earth."
But according to Birkett, he doesn't actually wish to replace his first nickname.
"No, my name's Big Play Slay," he said. "That's my nickname. That's all day, every day. I'm just, 'Hey, I'm Big Play.' That's all I do: I try to make big plays."
Last season he intercepted two passes and defensed 17 in 16 starts, and he reportedly feels he is continuing to grow as camp progresses.
