Maurice Jones-Drew Dismisses Injury Reports, Will Play in Season Opener

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew returned to practice Monday and will play in Sunday’s season opener against Denver.

Jones-Drew insists that reports that he suffered a lateral meniscus injury that caused him to miss most of the last two weeks are false.

“It’s a non-issue,” said Jones-Drew. “There’s a lot of false reports out… some guy in his basement decided to get everybody amped up about nothing. That’s just what it was. I was just resting.”

He expressed his frustration with the media about the false reports.

“There is no injury,” he said, “so let’s write that in the paper, please.”

Jones-Drew rushed for a career-high 1,391 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2009, but his longest run this preseason was just three yards before sitting the two final preseason games. He totaled minus-2 yards on six carries in limited preseason action.
