New England Patriots Preview: Running Back Depth

Today we'll take a look at the Patriots' plethora of viable, mostly-older backs. They do not field any runners that command respect a la Adrian Peterson or Chris Johnson, but they're multi-faceted veterans who can get the job done. We'll start the preview with the probable opening day starter, Laurence Maroney. It's a make or break season for the young man (he's only 25), as his contract is up at the end of the season. With that in mind, I know many Patriots fans who are rightfully hoping he'll put forth a full season's worth of the highlights he's exhibited throughout his career. He's been the ultimate tease to this point: showing above-average breakaway speed to combine with good size (5'11", 220 lbs), decent receiving skills, and enough pass blocking prowess to be an every down back.
