NFL: Are Expectations Too High for Rex Ryan and the New York Jets?

Would anyone be surprised if the New York Jets completely flame out this season? 
Honestly.
Given the history of this franchise and the expectations they have set for themselves, would you really be shocked if they missed the playoffs altogether?

While that scenario does not seem likely for a team with arguably the best defense in the NFL and one of the top ground games, their offseason moves and Rex Ryan’s mouth have basically made this a Super Bowl-or-Bust season. Surely anything short of a return to the AFC Championship Game will be a disappointment.

The Jets can in no way be faulted for trying to make the team better. That argument will in no way be attempted here. However, it was questionable to let go of Thomas Jones in favor of an inexperienced Shonn Greene and an aging LaDainian Tomlinson. We have also repeatedly seen big-name acquisitions that make a team look great on paper not exactly pan out once the games are played. Just ask Daniel Snyde...
