NFL Draft 2011: Are the Lions Looking at Taking Akeem Ayers in the First Round?

The Detroit Lions have their eye on UCLA's Akeem Ayers as a potential first round pick.
“Ready to get off this plane to see what Detroit has in store for me."
That is what appeared on Akeem Ayers' twitter account on Monday night. On Tuesday, Ayers was in Detroit for a pre-draft visit with the Detroit Lions.
Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press has this to say about the former Bruin:
"Ayers, a 6-foot-3 and 254-pound linebacker from UCLA, could fill a big need for the Lions, who have parted ways with five-time Pro Bowler Julian Peterson on the strong side. Ayers is considered versatile with enough speed and size to drop into coverage, rush the passer and stop the run."
The deal here is that the Lions do indeed need some help at the linebacker position and Ayers would fill that need nicely. But the No. 13 pick in the first round might be a bit of a reach for the former UCLA standout.
