NFL Waiver Report: Should San Francisco Pursue Shawne Merriman or Randy Moss?

Former San Diego Charger, Shawne Merriman, and former Vikings receiver, Randy Moss, have officially been added to Tuesday's waiver wire. Many teams have been tied to both of these players, and it would seem that any team looking to get over the hump and make a playoff run should look at either player.
The San Francisco 49ers are a team who have been an overall disappoint thus far in 2010. Posting a 2-6 record halfway through the regular season, the playoffs seem like a long shot. Possible, for sure, but definitely a long-shot.
Both owner Jed York and head "coach" Mike Singletary have been praising a regular season run leading to the playoffs. This has been laughed at among almost all fans of the league.
However, the 49ers went 5-1 in the division last year, and if they can post this same record they would be right in the playoff picture at 7-6. After a Week 1 loss to Seattle, San Francisco would have to win five straight divisional games.
