Pittsburgh Steelers Re-Sign Longtime Backup QB Charlie Batch

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed longtime back-up quarterback and hometown boy, Charlie Batch to a two-year deal according to the team website.
Financial terms of the deal have yet to be released.
Batch, 35, was drafted in the second round of the 1998 draft by the Detroit Lions.
Growing up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, his connections to Pittsburgh and current Steelers' Director of Football Operations, Kevin Colbert, are likely the reasons he was re-signed.
As a 13-year veteran in the league, Batch will continue to mentor the second-year quarterback out of Oregon, Dennis Dixon.
Dixon's type of play is very similar to Batch's early career. Both are considered hybrid-type quarterbacks who are well equipped to run bootleg passes and QB sweeps.
Batch's best years came early with the Detroit Lions.
