RB Jerious Norwood Placed on Injured Reserve by Atlanta Falcons

After suffering a knee injury on the opening kickoff of the Falcons’ 41-7 win over the Cardinals last Sunday, running back Jerious Norwood has been placed on injured reserve.

A third-round pick by the Falcons in 2006, Norwood rushed for 633 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie year but has seen his production and his carries dwindle since. He carried the ball 76 times for just 252 yards in 2009.

Meanwhile, the Falcons look to Jason Snelling to be the primary backup to Michael Turner. Snelling rushed for 129 yards (5.5 per carry) and two touchdowns in relief of Turner, who left the game with a groin injury that is said not to be serious. Snelling also caught five balls for 57 yards and a touchdown last week.

If Turner does end up missing time with that groin injury, the Falcons are confident in Snelling’s ability to be the go-to back, as he rushed for 613 yards (4.3 per carry) and four touchdowns in 2009 while Turner battled injuries.
