The Washington Redskins are hoping to duplicate last season’s improbable playoff run, but the Philadelphia Eagles want to be this year’s worst-to-first success story in the NFC East. The rivals stand in each other’s way in a Week 1 rematch at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philly.
The Birds took their burgundy-and-gold counterparts by surprise in the season opener, jumping out to a 26-point lead in the initial 32 minutes before coasting to a 33-27 final. It was Robert Griffin III’s first action after tearing his ACL in January, and the Washington quarterback seemed vastly unprepared.
He is playing better of late, and so are the Skins. Their 3-6 record is the same as it was this time last year, when they reeled off seven straight victories to steal the division.
The upstart Eagles enter this second meeting on a two-game winning streak of their own, though, and look to ride that momentum all the way to a tournament berth.
