Why Matthew Stafford Is Not Joey Harrington

Everyone knows the story. The Detroit Lions selected quarterback Matthew Stafford with the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. That was just last year, yet people are already forgetting the controversy that surrounded the Lions for making that pick. Many fans were upset that Detroit passed on linebacker Aaron Curry, who many thought was the best overall player in the draft. Others thought they should have taken an offensive lineman to anchor the left side of their horrible  line. But first-year general manager Martin Mayhew and rookie head coach Jim Schwartz instead took Stafford. Fast-forward to today, and the majority of the fans are extremely pleased with Stafford at the helm of the offense, and like him as the team leader and face of the franchise. He's a fan favorite, and he showed flashes of absolute brilliance last season. He proved he is tough and hungry to win.
